That is a very wise philosophy with computers.

If a prog won't close, there's a reason.  Often, small problems which 
themselves may be quite insignificant, can suddenly escalate into a major 
problem without warning.

Sometimes these minor problems may be symptoms of deeper problems which, if 
not corrected, can lead to lockups.  Oh yes, XP is perfectly capable of 
locking up, for any number of reasons.

Thus, although workarounds may be convenient, it's not a good idea to leave 
a problem unsolved for too long. Gremlins tend to breed and turn into monsters.
