TSGL: Standby freezes

I have now solved the problem ---by creating a new one!
Seems that installation of my Connexant BT848 video capture card drivers
causes the freeze in standby and hibernation, as uninstalling those drivers
has fixed the problem. Reinstalling the drivers brings the system back to
the standby freeze again.
So it now appears that I can now have either my capture card, or
Standby/Hibernation, but not both. Strange, as both were working fine up
till recently.
Could this be my punishment for excessive sins in a previous life?
These BT848 capture drivers have always been a bit troublesome to
install. Can anyone recommend an alternative video capture card, not too
expensive, which does not use these drivers?
I'm looking at a Leadtek Winfast card, which uses the same drivers. My
present card is about 4 years old, and I'm wondering if these drivers might
have been improved over this time?
Does the Connexant BT878 chip have any advantages over the 848 chip?
