Denise
That's a small drive.
What processor and operating system are you using?
harddrives need to have 10+% unused area to work right.
You're on the border now.
Get that music off of there.
You can get a 100-plus Gig harddrive on sale for $50 or so.
(a Christmas Present for junior).
I trust he is getting legal paid-for music. If he is playing with fire,
your computer is likely loaded with spyware.

My teenage son likes to download and burn music. The folder he has his
music in is 7.37GB in size. The capacity of my
C drive is 15.8GB with 13.4GB used and 2.4GB free. Is there anything I can
do to improve these numbers? I don't know too much about computers. Can I
buy something like an external hard drive that he can but his music on?

I have a compaq presario 5wv270 running windows ME

Thank you for any advice
