TSGL: Internet Explorer 7?

Don't know for sure, as I have always let Opera just "do its thing" then
decline
the option to make it my default email client. It takes up a relatively
little amount
of space, and disk space is plentiful, so why not just let it sit there
in silence?

This might be what you want, but you can use Thunderbird or any other
good
email client as an alternative simply by substituting the correct
program path,
such as C:\program files\Mozilla Thunderbird\Thunderbird.exe

If you use Outlook Express as your e-mail client, open the Tools >
Preferences menu in Opera, and go to Advanced > Programs. Select the
"mailto" option and click the "Edit" button.

Next, choose the "Open with other application" option, and click the
"Choose" button to locate the executable file for Outlook Express.
    The file's location is usually C:\Program Files\Outlook
    Express\msimn.exe.

You must now add the command line option "/mailurl:mailto:%" to the
"Open with other application" text field, and the result should look
    something like this:

    C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe /mailurl:mailto:%
