I don't use Yahoo but gather it is web-based email rather than a program
which can be installed on one's computer. Perhaps one of these links will
help:

Subject: TSGL: Yahoo default email program

Using WinXPsp2 and Firefox usually, IE7 occasionally.
I want to change a computer to default to Yahoo email by going to Tools/
Internet Options/ Programs and after Email, changing it to Yahoo, as the
Help Information below suggests. However, the drop-down box includes 4
options other than Yahoo and I cannot type in an entry. So somehow I need to
get Yahoo included in the list, as it is on some of the other computers
around here.
Any suggestions on how to get Yahoo included in the dropdown?

How can I change my default email application? Internet Explorer allows
you to select a default* email program to handle email links. Once you have
configured your software to make Yahoo! Mail your default email program,
clicking on an email address link will open Yahoo! Mail directly. To change
your default email application manually, follow these steps:
 Internet Explorer 6.0

   Open Internet Explorer.
Click the "Tools" menu at the top of the browser.
Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
   Click the "Programs" tab.
In the Email box, select the email program you wish to use.
   Click the "OK" button.
  Internet Explorer 5.x

   Open Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click "Internet Options."
   Click the "Programs" tab.
In the Email box, click the program you want.
   Click "OK."
From now on, whenever you click an email link in a web site, the email
program you have selected will be used automatically.
*In computer technology, a default (noun, pronounced dee-FAWLT) program is
one that is designated by the user or by another program to always be used
for a certain action -- in this case, when you click on an email link.
