Chuck,
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/readme.aspx under 'Rolling back to a previous version of the Player' has a few hints. It also says: "Windows Media Player is a feature of the Windows operating system and cannot be removed entirely. However, in Windows XP, you can roll back to the version of the Player that was previously on your computer. ........... "
Within add/delete programs you must select the Windows components part. There at least on my PC Windows Media Player is listed and can be removed by ticking the checkmark OFF. I haven't tried this though.
Good luck
Tilman

Betreff: TSGL: Media Player ain't workin' and won't leave
I updated some time ago to windows media player 11.
tried it today, the music does not play correctly.
tried to delete thru add/delete programs
MP said it would not delete; would revert to MP10 instead.
Ok, I figured, I'll do that, then delete...........????????????
so I had it revert to MP10 -- and a forced reboot --
MP10 runs just as badly.
so I look in add/delete programs; no media player listed.
I look at the icon in Programs to see if MP10 has an uninstall
option.........nope.
So..........how do I get rid of the darn thing? I hate to just delete
the folder on my harddrive and leave junk in the Registry.
Running winXP sp2.
