It seems like every day there's another spyware / AV solution.
Personally, instead of 3 AV apps, 3 antispyware scanners, a dozen firewalls,
a sandbox and god knows what else I think a user's best defense is
intelligent surfing -
1) Stop downloading zillions of dancing giggling customized icons, or some
kind of free calendar app or tons of new fonts - NOTHING IS FREE. Learn
that any 'want to speed up your computer?!?!' prompt WON'T - All it will do
is install junk on your PC.
2) Run Windows update frequently and keep your Windows box patched -
Whatever Microsoft wants to patch go ahead and patch - I've been doing this
for years without a problem.
3) Don't open junk that's been email-forwarded to you, and don't
email-forward on junk. If you MUST forward some junk, do a search on
snopes.com before you send it onwards.
4) If you're on ADSL / Cable Install a forty-dollar hardware router that
uses NAT so the IP assigned to your PC starts with 192.168.x.x - These IPs
aren't routable over the internet.
...In my opinion this works better than all that bloatware that probably
makes your PC slower than the spyware ever would.
YMMV
