TSGL: Activity without being online

First issue, there are lots of reasons that zone alarm would see brief
activity from time to time... Windows will check for critical updates, check
the time against the time server, etc. There are lots of programs that need
to query their company servers, such as your virus software, which needs to
check for updates.
It's not abnormal to see brief activity like that. BUT; that being said, you
should make sure to run your anti-spyware/adware programs to make sure you
don't have anything nasty hanging around.
Second issue sounds like her security settings are not allowing cookies to
be retained, (that's where websites store your log-in and password
information).

Subject: TSGL: Activity without being online

A friend has ZoneAlarm and is telling me that she sees activity even while
not dialed up.....she's talking on the phone and she's sees a brief flicker
of the red and green bars, indicating activity. I haven't been over there
yet to see it for myself but am wondering if this isn't just some "Windows"
function checking for a connection and trying to keep it alive if there is
one.

She also has AOL (okay, don't laugh). I've wanted her to switch for about 2
years but can never seem to convince her. There is also a big problem with
their proprietary software as "each and every" time she tries to make a
connection she's told that her password is no good. She's forced to go
through all the rigamarole of filling out personal information to verify her
identity, create new password, etc.

Any clues as to what's going on here?

TIA,
Ray
