Russ
I just received this in my mailbox 11/12/2006 8:52:01 P.M. Eastern Standard
Time
I'm so confused with the mail that I honestly don't remember if I received a
copy of it from Craig thru the list or Craig sent it to me off List. Along
with the copy of your email that I received from him was an email with Craig
stating that after he had read this response from you, he was rethinking his
remarks about disabling Error Reports.
I responded to Craig that I wasn't crashing at all. I'm going to put both
Craig's email and my response to his email at the bottom of this one and
they'll be in the correct order, I hope.
I was sending Micro$oft Error Reports for freezing using IE 6 or 7 as soon
as I would access IE or freezing after I'd put my web site that I wanted to go
to, click go & freeze.
The majority of them were for ending a non responsive site, or something to
that affect.
I'm also having to send Error Reports for another problem caused by
Micro$oft but I honestly can't even begin to remember what for, sorry.
I am sending this thru the List and hope you get it quickly but all of it
will at least be on one email.

The server seems to be doing better with new mail but the older mail is
trickling in at a snail pace but at least it's starting to move, but if is ever
so confusing.

Hi Craig:
My "priceless" email, ROFLMBO, I don't think so, but thank you<blush>
No, I haven't received Russ's email and thank you for enclosing it for me.
I have extremely high regard for Russ as a person and his knowledge of the
Internet and follow his advise, if it pertains to a problem of mine or
something I'm interested in. My personal nickname for Russ is "The Reverend" or
"The Rev", sorry Russ.
I did go to the TSGL archives to read his email and also found a "ton" of
email that I hadn't received yet and 3 of mine are just sitting there that I
sent on 8 & 9 November. I don't know how TSGL handles the emails from the
members after they receive them but I do know that I'm not getting 95% of the
email in their archives...HELLO, DID YOU BLOCK SOME OF US? STOP SINNING & MOVE
THE MAIL FORWARD!!!!!!!!
In Russ's email he is discussing "crashing" and you and I are discussing
"freezing", not being that knowledge of the inner workings of the Internet, I
thought that they were two different problems. So does anyone know if they are
2 different problems?
I've never received anything from Micro$oft/Micro$loth for sending in the
error reports for "freezing" but every time I've "crashed", I immediately have
received a web page from them about the "crash" without ever asking for one.
So are we talking apples & oranges here? I don't know because that's way,
way above my knowledge.
You stated in your email that you had received an "erudite" response from
Russ. I may have been a straight "A" student but your "erudite" threw me, I
actually had to look it up in the dictionary<G> thanks for the lesson. Nay I say
You also stated "Guess I'll have to re-think my relationship with
Micro$loth. Hey! I may be self taught, but I'm not above contrition!"
Nay I say, you're perfectly fine the way you are and there's to many who do
think that they're above contrition and one I know of is on the List...gotcha
and it's YOUR FAULT<G>
Hope to hear from you again...
Toni

Hi, Toni:

You're quite welcome. BTW, I received your priceless email, apparently, 2
hours after you sent it, 6:15 PST 11/9/2006.

I think you're being admirably conscientious when you said:

Before I disable it, I'd like to hear the pros and cons of some of the
members on list.
Does Micro$oft really do anything with these error reports?
Is it worth the effort to send the error reports or a complete waste of our
time?
An erudite response from Russ made me change my tune on this issue, as he
covers those questions. For myself, I have kept little hacks like that for
years & just toss them in a folder. The date/time stamp for the "disable error
reports" hack was pre-XP-SP2! In retrospect, I may have done a disservice to
TSGL subscribers by publishing it. Not very responsible of me, all things
considered.

Guess I'll have to re-think my relationship with Micro$loth. Hey! I may be
self taught, but I'm not above contrition!

Craig

In case you haven't received Russ's response to me yet (some kind of server
thing?), I'll include it here:

Re: "It seems to me that the bums at Micro$oft shouldn't need us to do their
job for them at all."

In fact, it's these reports that let the "bums" at MS actually do there job.
Without the reports, MS usually has no idea what is crashing and why. With
the reports, MS can see where there are problems and what needs to be fixed.
And most of the time, the problem is not with the OS, it is with the machine
that has crashed. I've actually reported some of these crashes and found MS
contacting me through a web page to tell me what was probably wrong and how
it could be fixed. By the way, I do not believe that MS had any idea of who
I was, just my IP address.

Yes, let MS do their jobs, some of which are fixing the problems in their
Operating System that were not obvious to anybody ... until machines started
crashing. If you've ever written software, you know that software bugs are
easily written, but not easily seen or found. And it is usually the case
that the bugs are not noticed until something crashes. And the thing that
causes the crashes may be something rare and only on a few machines. And,
believe me, it is quite helpful when MS is able to report to me the problem
and the solution.

Report these crashes. MS needs to know.

Russ Coover

I am trying to find myself. If you see me before I do, please ask me to wait
until I return.

I bet I've sent 100 reports to Microsoft, hey let the bums do their
work.
They keep asking for reports, I'll send them to them.

I got really tired of that. So, for those interested, below is the fix for
that.

Craig

If you find error reporting objectionable and want it disabled:

Then click on the Advanced tab.
