Thanks to all who made suggestions and recommendations to me, so that I
could advise my aunt.
To John: Lee, short for Lenna, my aunt, lives in Nevada and I live in MA,
so bring the program on a CD is not an option.
* To H. Davis: She is using a dial-up service so what you say about the long
download period causing it to time out along the way, makes sense, but what
confused me was her comment: "I got just so far and all of a sudden a
message came on the screen that some files were corrupted and to get a fresh
copy and retry." Corrupted files on a program that had yet to be opened?
How is it possible for that to be known until it is opened?
* To Mitchell Torres: Thanks for the mirror sites. I sent them to her. I
got an email from her last night and she said she would try them latter and,
if they didn't work, she would try downloading Avast, which is what Justin
recommended (thanks for your input Justin)
* To Russ: As you say trying to diagnose the problem with my aunt would be
difficult, even if I had a clue :o) That upload/download site is interesting
and could come in handy some time, but this may not be the time, unless all
else fails. I figure to let her try again today using a mirror site and. if
that doesn't work have her try Avast. Problem with Avast is she may get
confused with the registration process... she confuses easily. I think I
must take after her..., but at least she has an excuse (she's old :-)
Last I heard, aunt Lee didn't try downloading again (last night) as she
didn't want to deal with the long download time at that particular time.
Hopefully, she will do better today with the mirror sites or with Avast as
was recommend.
Thanks again, everyone.
Glenn
