Agreed.

To that I'd add Spyware Terminator (free)---the best interface and Active 
Mode of all of them I reckon. Don't know how its database compares, but 
seems good.  Might be a tad too intrusive for beginners, though, like Zone 
Alarm in its learning mode.

After using many, it's currently my first choice, along with Winpatrol Pro, 
though its free version is perfectly adequate.  A-Squared is another nice 
one for an occasional scan.
