TSGL: DVD-RW Drive has disappeared

Assuming you've already checked for tight cabling, and tried Control
Panel's Add Hardware....

Have you tried running "sfc /scannow"? I'm thinking a corrupted system
file might cause this,
but you might also try system restore or other registry backup to a
point prior to the problem
(didn't I just say that in a previous post? ;-) ).

Of course it is possible too that the DVD-RW has simply failed, so can
you test it in another system?
Were there any system or software changes just prior to its disappearance?

This KB might be relevent: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320553
or this: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000136.htm

Keep us posted.

One last thought: Are the disks you are trying those that worked before
in the same drive?
