TSGL: DVD-RW Drive has disappeared

Tilman Brandl ...

Seems like the TSGL system is still working.

Unfortunately, I am not too familiar with the BIOS. Where would I go and
what would I look for to find verification of my "dropped out" DVD-RW drive?
If you prefer you can explain it to me off-list.

My scanner and printer are listed in the control panel; but shouldn't they
also be listed in the device manager? Both are working fine.

Dieter,

I'm having doubts whether this will ever show up on this list, the last
message I sent did not ...

Your DVD-drive has disappeared from device manager, but did it disappear
from the BIOS too?

If it doesn't show up in the BIOS, then there's something very basically
wrong:

Check all the connectors on the drive + on the motherboard too. You MUST see
it in BIOS, otherwise Win XP will not recognize it either.

I've recently had a case myself with a DVD drive that had simply died
electrically ...

Check (1) drive, (2) cables and (3) port by adding the drive into another
machine if possible, attach it to a different IDE port: if it's on IDE 2,
add it to IDE 1 instead. Try cvonnecting it with different/new cables ...
Connect it as a single (master) drive on IDE 2 if it hasn't been already.

This way you should be able to decide whether the drive is faulty or not.

Did you look under scanners? Or printers? I would anyway not be overly
alarmed if they both work well as you said ...

Betreff: TSGL: DVD-RW Drive has disappeared

I have noticed some recent DVD-RW streams. I would like to throw in my
problem. I am running XP Pro SP2.

My DVD-RW Drive entry has disappeared from my PC ... there is nothing
listed
anywhere ... there is nothing in the Device Manager and nothing in My
Computer. Of course the hardware is installed and is impishly blinking
whenever I put in a DVD. The s/w that came with the DVD-RW has nothing on
it to help me. I can't play back and can't burn DVDs. My CD-RW and
CD-ROM
drives are working fine. Is there anything that can be done to remedy
this
  situation?

While I was looking around in the Device Manager (where I seldom go and
look), I noticed that my USB scanner and printer were both nowhere to be
found. Is this a normal occurrence? Both pieces of hardware are working
  fine.

Your comments, as always, are appreciated.

  Dieter / Nor*Cal
