TSGL: Digital Camera

Windows XP Home, SP2.  Before upgrading to XP I had Win98 SE and installed driver and related software for an Olympus D-540 digital camera I had purchased. Everything worked fine until I upgraded to XP.  I am unable to transfer pictures from camera to computer.  When I plug in camera to computer a window pops up stating "Welcome to the Found new hardware Wizard."  Inserted Installation disk as requested.  Another window pops up stating the file "Olpubkcr.sys" is needed.

I called Olympus customer support and the rep said Installing the driver on a computer with XP is not required, but is required for Win98.  He said the problem resulted from initially installing while I had Win98, and I would need to reformat the computer .

Reformatting seems like a drastic step, any other ideas on what else I might try as a fix?
