hi all
my first post. I cought a virus, finally had to run xp home recovery
disk slipstreamed with sp2.
I had to authenicate by internet and no problems. I did the
recovery,which overwrites your existing
windows and preserves your settings while my cable modem was connected.
the install found my lan
and every thing seemed to go great. while checking my
settings,programs,browser and e-mail i realised
i had a virus. after checking for the problem, i found it was a
different virus. So did a full format
and reinstall of xp with my network cable unpluged. I then installed my
lan settings with my floppy networking disk and clicked to
authenicate my os and a dialog came up saying i had exceeded the number
of times this disk could be
authenicated. i had never heared of this and read the text file you
have to press f8 to acept and it dos not
say anything about the number of times you can authenicate. my disk was
purchased from sams club in 2006
,in a green ms box and has been thru the genuine crap required when you
manually download updates,
has anyone on the list experienced this and did you have to purchase a
new copy of windows.I have three
desktops running windows xp pro and home and two laptops running xp pro
and never had a problem with
authenicating. thanks for any reply.
