TSGL: Windows update fails with fresh system?

Hi all,

I've run into troubles with a friend's newly set up XP Pro on a new 
laptop: Selecting Windows Update puts the winupdate address into the 
address field and seems to run, but then it quickly says 'Ready!' - and 
nothing else, the page remains empty.

I seemed to recall that there can be problems where one has to add the 
update site to the 'Trusted Sites Zone'. I've tried this, Win XP 
demanded me to add the s to http (making it https) which I did, to no 
avail. Is there a secret one has to know in order to make this work? 
Personally I've sofar seen the Update site fail, but not just doing 
nothing!
