.. if you've got the time & nerves to test this kind of setup, just go 
ahead. Would possibly help some people if you find out that it actually 
DOES work!

But: From my past knowledge of electronics (from my earlier life as a 
telecommunications engineer) I wouldn't bother to try. You'll end up 
with two (or even more) different kinds of signals under a single 
shielding, which means asking for trouble. OTOH, there are AFAIK 
different kinds of cat 5 cables out there. If you happen to have the 
"Screened Twisted Pair" type, your idea would maybe work. This type is 
in use mainly in Europe if I'm not mistaken.

Personally I would probably add a 30 m phone line to what you already 
have, which is simple, easy and unexpensive. Otherwise, what about a 
cordless phone for this station? You can get one for about 25 $$ over 
here in Europe.
