TSGL: Scrambled Desktop

Cyndi,

I've never made a measurement but my gut feel is that more desktop icons 
will slow down the start up process. Some time ago I removed a lot of 
stuff from my desktop and XP seem to boot up faster.

If you think about it, the icons shown on the desktop reside in the 
executable of the file they reference (usually). Unless Windows saves 
the icons separately after it finds them the first time, it must locate 
the executable file and extract the icon to display it. If you've got 50 
icons, that's 50 files that must be located and opened to extract the 
icon. I'm not sure this scenario is accurate but it sounds reasonable. 
Anyone else know for sure?
