TSGL: What is downloading furiously

I am not aware of software that will notify you of any downloads.
Zone Alarm is good, but will not totally protect you from some back door
"Trojan".
If, however, you also are protected by having each and every MS Security
patch, a combination of several programs like Ad-Aware, Spybot, Windows
Defender, and others (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyware ), along with
a good anti-virus application, you may be safe.
But, and it's a big butt, you have to keep all this software up to date, and
that includes the Operating System.
Now, as to my guess as to what may be happening ... I suspect that one or
more of the softwares you have checks regularly for updates. It may be your
anti-virus application, it may be the Operating System itself (automatic
updates) or it may be something else. Many software writers will write their
software to automatically update without your permission. Certain Trojan
applications do it all the time, You may have one of these apps on your hard
drive.
If you have Ad-Aware, Spybot, Windows Defender, or similar, run them all,
one after another and scan you complete hard drive (or hard drives). But it
is possible that an application has modified each of them so that they will
not notify you of one or more malware apps. So you must scan your computer
with something that isn't on your hard drive. Fortunately, Trend Micro does
such a scan over the internet. You can scan for viruses and for malware
using what they call "Housecall" (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ ).
I don't know what you'll find, but if you do find malware, Housecall will
help you get rid of it. And if you don't, you'll find peace of mind.

Subject: TSGL: What is downloading furiously
Hi All,
Is there a program (preferably free) which can identify which program is
downloading at any time? My computer is downloading now at full speed, but I
do not know what. The Task Manager does not show any unusual activity, and
neither the hard disk. I am protected by Zone Alarm Suite, so there should
not be any hacking. I hope.
Any ideas?
Best wishes.
Hasanat
