I agree.  I think you are quite well protected if you use all of the 
above freeware products and keep the OS up to date.  I've been using 
Free AVG anti-virus, Zone Alarm, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Windows Defender 
and Spyware Blaster for many years and have NEVER had a system problem 
caused by malware, spyware, virus or trojan.  My son and daughter have 
also used the same products and approach and never had a problem either, 
and we are all VERY heavy pc users and access a multitude of websites.  
I've also advised a dozen or more friends and associates on the approach 
I use who are now  following the same approach and I have not heard of 
any of them having any problems.  I think the key is to be diligent 
about checking daily for regular updates to these products and running 
regular scans as soon as updates are downloaded.
I don't regularly run the Trend Micro or other free security website 
scans that are available but it's probably a good idea to do so.
