TSGL: Create photo album from emailed pix attachments

Hi ED,

since your message took 10 (ten) days to arrive on my PC I wouldn't hold my breath for you getting my or anybody else's answer in time.

Let me try to give you some hints, and I apologize in advance if they sound too basic for you, but I don't know your level of experience.

1. Did you receive the pics?
Let's assume that you indeed *did* receive the attachments. If they're missing, continue with 1.a. 
If you have got attachments, you'll have that paper clip symbol showing on the message that came with the pics. If you left-click that symbol, you'll have 2 options: (1) the files (or files') name(s) and (2) an option to save the attachment(s). But before you make a choice here, continue at #2.

1.a. There are no attachments/pics
Your OE6 may be set to *not* receive any attachments. You may then change this from the OE 6. menu under Tools | Options | Security and ask your people to eamil the pictures once again. Afterwards start these steps again from #1.

2. A rock-solid place /folder which you'll find again easily 
The main task is to select a folder somewhere where you'll save the pics to and - even more important - will be able to find them again. Look out for such folder in Windows Explorer (or the file manager you're using) which you feel confident at being able to find again later. If there's no such folder in sight, you may as well create one from scratch. (On my 3rd partition E:\ e.g. I have a folder named PICTURES with several subfolders for different items, journeys, years etc., each time coming back from a journey I add a new folder here).

3. Save your pictures
As soon as you've found such folder and it is ready to receive your pictures (write down the path to it on a slip of paper) go back to OE 6, left click that paper-clip, and select "Save attachments" (or whatever the wording is in an English program version). There's an option down below in this dialog where you can browse all your drives and folders for the one you selected/created. Alternatively you may just write the correct path (which must exist) into that box. You'll have to select (mark) all pictures you want to save bevore you click the 'Save' button.

4. Go to pics folder and proceed
Going back to the folder you selected/created all the pics you did select for saving should be there. The next step would be to fire up e.g. Picasa and let it make a photo-album, slideshow or whatever from the contents of that folder. Please let us know if you arrive at that point and still have questions.

  Well, I've tried, but keep losing the files during exporting. I must have forgotten to take that important step- whatever it is?

  Some great family pix have been circulating as email attachments. I was asked to make a slide show and album to index and preserve them. My reputation was at stake. I couldn't refuse. It's really a simple task. Of course, remembering how to do it is not so simple.

  I'm working with XPPro, SP2, Outlook Express 6, and Picasa 2.

  Does anyone remember the step-by-step path to successful extraction of email attachments for their reembodiment  into a single photo album from which a slide show can be constructed?

  If not, use this posting as part of the time checking for 'list' email delivery. This is leaving the greater NYC area at 1645 Tuesday, April 16, 2007.
