I don't know if it will meet your needs, but you're welcome to try PicNamer
from www.rbrunton.ca/BruntonSoft

Hi Tilman

For automatically renaming files use ExplorerXP (freeware)

http://www.explorerxp.com/

This windows explorer replacement has an excellent
renaming ability that includes renumbering filenames by
a step you select. you can format the filename anyway
you want. Its easy to use and has a lot of powerful
options. And it is a lot better then Windows explorer.

For sorting your files I like Google's Picasa (Freeware)

http://picasa.google.com.

You can sort photo folders by date, filename and size.
It also is an easy to use photo organizer and photo editor.
