TSGL: Adding the Run Command to Vista

Mike,
Modifying the Start Menu in Vista is much like modifying it in XP .
Right click on an empty portion of the taskbar. You will get a context menu.
Click on "Properties".
On the Taskbar tab, if you see that "Lock the taskbar" is checked, uncheck
it.
Click on the Start Menu tab. Click on "Start Menu" and then "Customize".
Customize to your hearts content but be sure to add a checkmark to "Run
Command".
Click "OK" and as you are closing this out, you will probably want to add
that checkmark back onto "Lock the taskbar".
Of course, when you were on the Start Menu tab, if you had clicked on
"Classic Start Menu", you would have gotten the Run Command back there, too,
but you would have lost the Vista look. In fact, your desktop would look
like an old Win 98 machine.
I do believe the above info is available in help, but since the same options
are available in XP, and I had always modified XP in this way, I just tried
it in Vista and it worked.
"My best to you.
Russ

Subject: Vista Help
Russ,
In your reply regarding Armor Firewall, when commenting about Vista, you
said, "Or, if you have added "Run" to your Start Menu as I have, you can
type it in there."
I'm hoping you can tell me how to add Run to the Start Menu in Vista.
Likewise, is this type of info available in Help or was it something you
already knew how to do?
I have been reading Vista's Help as much as possible, but don't see things
like this. I'm thinking of buying some kind of good book on Vista just to
learn more about it and some of the good little tricks, but that's probably
fairly expensive if the same info is available somewhere in Help. Or do you
have a recommendation for a website that can help me out with such stuff?
I'm just not sure where I should look on the internet to find good help on
Vista.
Right now I'm having trouble finding things. For instance, it took me quite
some time to do a System Restore because I couldn't find it. Oh the pain of
learning a new operating system! Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
