TSGL: Which Anti-Virus and Firewall To Use

Thank you, Don from sunny Queensland, for your response.
I agree with you "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" so, as I told
Michael, I'll continue to use PC-cillin Internet Security
Anti-virus and Firewall Protection.
As to the two Anti-virus and firewall that AOL said I had,
all I know is that I purchased PC-cillin from Dell when they
were building my "replacement" XPS 710 and they installed it.
Since PC-cillin is a Trend Micro Product and I do run
Trend Micro House call perhaps that's where AOL picked
up on two anti-viruses and two firewalls.
How's the weather there, is it still as hot as blue blazes?
Here in Aberdeen, Maryland (hometown of the great
Ironman of baseball Cal Ripken, Jr.) the wind chill is about 7.
I much prefer the cold to the relentless heat & humidity.

That sort of advice, to me, would be a jolly good reason to wipe AOL from
my computer. It has never enjoyed a good reputation among the
technically-knowledgeable community anyway.

Sounds to me as if you're getting caught up in the crossfire of a rather
nasty commercial war.

Maybe McAfee is getting so far behind the marketing 8-ball that this is the
only way left to market their product.
It used to be a very good product, and still is in many ways, but like
Nortons, it has lost its way in recent times.

My own impression is that if you follow their advice, you'd be dropping at
least 2 notches in your security.

I've never used AOL nor had anything to do with it, and maybe AOL has
cleaned up its act recently, so let's see what the more enlightened members
of our community think. I think it's part of AOL's continual quest for
market domination, by steering its customers to its own associated products.

Am I being too harsh?

If you're not having any security problems now, why change?

It's unclear from your email exactly what you are using now for a-v, and
what you're using for your firewall. You should only use one firewall. You
mentioned two.
