TSGL: Convert FAT32 to NTFS

Possibly I missed a post where someone else answered your last question
below Dieter. If this is redundant, my apologies to the list.
Someone did note that the volume label is just a name for the drive.
However, there is a limit of eleven characters for the name and I try to
avoid spaces in a volume name, although I don't know that this latter point
is really necessary. You also cannot use some characters in the volume name
such as '?', '*' or ':'. Thus you might name your drive "EX_G", or
"Portadrive" (ten characters), or "External", etc. You might also note that
you can name, or rename, the drive/volume at any time. Either click on the
drive letter in the folder view of Windows Explorer and press function key
"F2" and then type the name or right-click on the drive letter and select
"Rename" from the context menu.
The comment noting the greater flexibility to connect to a variety of
systems including older ones is true. This may or may not be relevant. At
the moment, and for the foreseeable future, I have no systems running legacy
Windows (95, 98, ME) and I would choose NTFS just because it is a
technically better format.
Hope this adds to the discussion.
Ron

Subject: TSGL: Convert FAT32 to NTFS
I want to convert my external G: drive from FAT32 to NTFS. After ...
CONVERT G: /fs:ntfs ... it asks me to ... enter the current volume label for
Drive G:. I don't understand the question. What precisely is it I have to
enter?
I tried to name the drive ... External Drive G: ... but that doesn't work.
Dieter
