TSGL: Moving to a new HD?

Well, gang, I did it. And it all worked out much better than I had
hoped. Thanks to you guys.

In researching hard drives, I learned that both my current ones were
IDE (ATA) drives, but I really wanted a faster SATA drive. I dug
out my old motherboard manual and discovered that it had two SATA
connections that weren't being used, so I went to my local CompUSA
and bought a 250GB Western Digital 7200rpm SATA drive for just over
US$100. I also picked up a copy of Acronis True Image.

I brought it all home, plugged in the SATA drive, ran the HD install
program that came with it, and--bingo--everything worked. So I
installed Acronis and imaged my C: drive onto my brand-new 250GB G:
drive. It all worked beautifully.

The only minor snag came when I tried to make the G: drive become C:
drive. I had thought that Acronis would have made that change
automatically, but either it can't do that or I gave it the wrong
instructions. At any rate, I used my copy of PartionMagic to make
the changes in drive letters. After a couple of reboots everything
came out great. I have a new C: drive with plenty of room on it,
the old C: drive is now G: and will be used for backup, my old D:
drive is just as it always was, and (most surprising) the new HD
makes booting and most operations significantly faster than before.
It's like a whole new machine. I'm quite impressed.

Thanks again, guys. I learned a lot by doing this. If there's
anything else you'd like to know about my experience, just let me
know.

(By the way, I've rebooted several times today just to marvel at how
fast it goes. It really is like a new machine--and for less than
US$150 total. Amazing.)
