TSGL: Moving to a new HD?

John, Thank you for pointing out that there were no IDE HD
connections available.
Not knowing what facilities Gene has on his computer I proposed
possibilities that he (or others) may want to peruse.
I realised that the four HD connections were taken up but there are
other ways of connecting a HD. Being an old motherboard I did not
expect there to be USB2 available. USB1 is far too slow for a HD.
As it turned out he discovered he had two SATA connections that
weren't being used and his problem is now solved.
What he can now do is use the original "C" drive to back up his "D"
drive, which he has stated he will do, and instal a second faster
SATA drive to back up his "C" drive.
Personally, I would clone both drives to files on a third drive.
The reason, by compression the third drive should be capable of
holding the files and all computer programs, settings and data, and
these can be easily retrieved if needed.
My use of a mobile rack, and I stress MY, was to protect my data
come what may. By cloning to a file even if the computer crashed
for some reason and ruined the "C" drive and corrupted the clone
file, I still had two previous copies of my system. I stored the
Mobile HD off site so that in the event of a fire I would not lose
all my data. I guess it all depends on what value you put on your
computer's content. For information, I use a protected UPS power
supply.
