TSGL: Moving to a new HD too

Acronis True Image will do the job easily. Other folks like Ghost. If you
have to purchase one or the other, purchase Acronis.
The new drive only needs to be large enough to accept everything on the
primary drive. It can be larger, too. As long as your BIOS can see and read
the entire drive, it makes no difference on how large it is. If the BIOS can
not see the entire drive, you may be able to update it. Check the
motherboard manufacturer's website.
As far as a restriction on the type of drive ... that depends only on the
type of drive your motherboard and cables can handle. Basically you'll find
3.5" SATA, 3.5" IDE, 3.5" SCSI, 2.5" IDE and 2.5" SATA. Each uses different
connectors. If the computer is more than a couple of years old, it is
probably set up for 3.5" IDE, and that is probably the way you should go
rather than buying a different type drive and adapters to connect it.

Subject: TSGL: Moving to a new HD too
hi
we have a Compaq(?) desktop p-4 1.8ghz in our club office.
I hear it has been having a bootup problem. Haven't any details
yet. Do know that the harddrive was reformatted and put back into
action a year ago.
I suspect we will want to replace the harddrive. So the question becomes:
is it an easy operation to install a new drive as slave, copy everything
to it,
then remove the old drive and move the new drive to primary? Can the new
drive be of any size, not smaller, than the original? Is there a
restriction
on the type of drive to buy?
Just planning ahead, just in case.
thanx, chuck
