Sounds like the sort of thing a virus or malicious "malware" might 
do.  When did it start? Can you relate this to anything you've downloaded 
or any dubious website you might have visited that day?

Hard to say on so little information.

First try uninstalling then reinstalling whatever viewing software you are 
using.  Or see if it happens in an alternative viewer such as Irfanview.

Try a System Restore.

I suggest copying your picture folder to prevent any further losses while 
you play around with the problem-- copy them to a CD.
