Mike,
The fact that you cannot disable Google Toolbar Notifier is a bug in the
Google Toolbar that (according to Google) has been eliminated in the latest
version. If you really want to continue to use the Google Toolbar, I suggest
that you remove the present Toolbar and then download and install the newest
version http://google.toolbar.com . At that time, disable the Notifier.
Myself? I won't allow Google Toolbar on my computer. I don't want it. I
don't need it, and I'm very unhappy when I see it rear its ugly head (as it
has when I wasn't so careful while installing some other application). I do
use Google as my default search engine, but I use it through an old, but
reliable freeware application called "Search Bar" (which is also the name of
a separate, but not so worthy Malware application). You can find this one
from Patrick Deal at http://go.to/searchbar .

Subject: TSGL: Google Toolbar Notifier
WinPatrol notified me that a BHO was recently installed named Google Toolbar
Notifier. Meanwhile ZoneAlarm notified me that Google Toolbar Notifier was
trying to connect to the internet. I let WinPatrol block it and I denied
the ZA request. Although I use Google as a search engine 99.99% of the time
I don't like it blocking use of another search engine (if that is what it
would do) and I don't like it automatically connecting to the internet
because I didn't know what the purpose was. Just call me cautious. I just
didn't know enough about it to feel safe in allowing everything that was
happening at the moment, but now I'm wondering if I made a mistake. Would I
have anything to worry about if I allowed all this? And am I missing
anything important if I don't allow it?
