TSGL: Messages not going through ??

Thanks, Merna. As a very long time member of and contributor (I hope) to
this list, it is gratifying to read about your and others good feelings
toward the list and it's contributors. I know that since I became a member
of this list, my knowledge of software and hardware has grown tremendously,
and I think I have been able to give the group almost as much as I have
gotten or gained.

Unfortunately, because of other obligations, I haven't been as active with
the list as I've been in the past, but I do try to read it everyday and
respond when I think I have something to contribute.

Now if only we could get the messages to appear on the list within a short
time after they were sent, that would be great. My guess as to the origin
of the problem? It is the "spam" you have mentioned, and the "moderators"
attempt to keep it from being sent to the list members.

I am trying to find myself. If you see me before I do, please ask me to wait
until I return.

Hi, Olivia.

I subscribed to this List in November 2002 and have been a "lurker" for most
of the time. I sincerely hope it doesn't fold or disappear because of the
current problem.

The professionals who willingly give their advice and expertise have taught
me a lot, and I have also learned from those who are not professionals and
ask basic (and perhaps even "stupid" questions). You will note that I said
"from those of us who are not professionals" - I belong to that group.

I agree wholeheartedly with John's comments about "the format of this list
better than anything else" (I much prefer it to forums) and "above all, the
attitude of the members is the best. It's like having good friends round the
corner." Thanks, John, for putting that feeling into words.

I don't know how long you have been a member, but the List has weathered
past glitches. Pause for a quick trip down memory lane:

(a) The two or three times we have been inundated with spam - this was
eventually sorted out.

(b) The year we all knew when ? (name forgotten, but the incident can't
be!) would be "out of the office" until (?date) and we were all told about
it again and again and again and again ......... because before he left he
had set up his email to reply to all messages with that advice and we were
caught in a seemingly inescapable loop as every TSGL email to him, including
his own, triggered the advice.  Many Listers were irritated, even angry;
some blocked his emails. I found it irritating, but I, and others, also saw
the funny side of it. After all, he hadn't done it purposely; and sometimes
you DO "have to laugh or you'll cry." I think everyone was hoping he'd
return much sooner than he planned!

I think the "attitude of the vast majority of the members" is frustration at
what is happening, hope that it will be sorted out soon, and the willingness
to help sort it out if we are able. At least, I certainly HOPE that's the
majority attitude.

Hang in there if you can.

Merna

Hello John
You state
<Oh, guys, just shrug your shoulders and think, "I'll do what I can...">
With an attitude like that from you and evidently the vast majority of the
members it's no wonder the list is run so poorly.
