TSGL: Watching mini dv tapes on TV

Kathryn,

There was a smaller version of VHS tapes which were placed into an adapter
in order to play in a VHS machine. The tape within the smaller cassette was
identical to tape that was in full sized VHS cassette, but was shorter,
because there was not enough room in the smaller cassette case for full
length. The VHS machine was able to read the mini VHS tape because the tape
was the correct width and the recording on it was in the VHS mode.

Mini DV tape, on the other hand, is different from VHS tape, Not only does
it have different properties, DV recording is done in a different way than
VHS recording, and even if you were able to somehow develop an adapter that
would thread the DV tape through a VHS machine, the VHS machine would not be
able to read the tape.

So you'll either have to hook the camera to the TV (or to the external
inputs of something else already connected to the TV, such as a DVD recorder
or a VHS recorder). Another, more costly solution would be to purchase a DV
player, such as the one made by Sony.

I am trying to find myself. If you see me before I do, please ask me to wait
until I return.

Subject: TSGL: Watching mini dv tapes on TV

I've tried googling a few phrases but I'm not finding what I'm looking for.
Isn't there some sort of vhs sized thing that the mini dv tapes go into so
you can play the mini dv tape in your vhs machine?

I just got a used camcorder that uses the mini dv tapes, and I don't want to
go to the hassle of hooking the camera up to the tv if I can avoid it. I
vaguely remember my mother using a similar device several years ago with an
older style camcorder. Don't know if her tapes were mini dv or something
else, but I know she had some sort of adapter.

So, can someone give me a url to what I'm looking for so I can google places
to buy them?
