TSGL: AVG Free AV--Does It Scan Incoming HTTP Traffic??

I don't use IE much so haven't noticed if Avast results in a slowdown or
not. Interesting that Firefox on your system is not slowed down by
Avast. Are you running Vista OS?? Are you sure the WebShield module in
Avast that scans incoming http traffic is actually turned on?? When I
have the WebShield module turned on and use Firefox to bring up a
webpage, especially those with lotsa graphic images that have to load, I
can see the Avast symbol in the lower right corner of the screen
spinning like crazy, because it is scanning each image as it loads.
When I turn off the WebShield module, the same page loads
instantaneously, so I know it is the Avast WebShield scanning of graphic
images that is slowing the process down. I suppose I could turn off the
remote image loading feature of Firefox and webpages would probably load
very quickly, but I enjoy seeing all the images so don't wish to do
that. Plus there'd be no real purpose then in having the WebShield
scanning module turned on. I've turned off the WebShield module and all
is working fine. Since I've used AVG Free AV for years without this
feature and haven't had any problems, I'm not overly concerned.
