TSGL: Eudora settings

Hi Don,

The Thunderbird method of sending email from an alternate email address only
works if your ISP will actually allow it. My ISP, Verizon, a large US
telephone company, will not allow a user to send email through its SMTP
servers if the address being used to send is not a valid verizon.net
address. Thus the Thunderbird method will not work with Verizon and (I
assume) many other large ISPs. But with Outlook, Outlook Express, and
Windows Mail, the user selects the SMTP server to be used. With these three
email clients, the clients will normally send email through the default
server, but if the user prefers to use another server (email address), it
can be done with one or two clicks of the mouse (depending upon the client
used). Replies, of course, are automatically sent using the server through
which the original emails were received.

Obviously there are some advantages that Thunderbird and Eudora have over
the Microsoft email clients, but the multiple SMTP advantage of the MS
clients makes them preferable for me. Generally, I use Outlook and my wife
(who has two separate email addresses) uses Windows Mail (which replaced
Outlook Express in Vista). We have not had any security problems with any of
these clients.

I use Thunderbird and have two e-mail addresses and can receive both
without any problem. As for sending I am forced to send through my ISP
and can change my e-mail address on the e-mail. This e-mail I think wil
show that it is from donjam at melbpc.org.au but it is sent from donjam
@optus.com.au as that is my ISP address.
