TSGL: Crashed

I have a Windows Vista HP that just crashed on me.
Was working in Explorer transferring image files from folder to folder
when Explorer said it had to close. It did and I rebooted. Now all I
get is a black screen with with the message in white letters :"The file
is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the
computed checksum."

I cannot get into safe mode. Cannot go to last known good
configuration. Cannot get system restore to start either form the BIOS
screen or using a restore disc.

Never had this happen like this before.
Any ideas??

TIA, Ron Grant
