I have no own experience with this, but if you go & google for e.g. "problem uninstall media player" you'll find several hints. One might solve your specific situation ...
Other than that, personally I would probably try to use for instance jv16 and remove ALL traces of media plyer on that PC - folders, files & every single place inside the registry where the WMP is mentioned.
But BEWARE - I haven't tried this - no guarantees. Although I don't think so, this might well be a perfect way to hose your whole windos installation.

I'm running winXPsp2 .
my windows media player does not operate well; it is all fouled up. I've tried to uninstall it but could not figure out a way. Version 11 appears in "Add Remove Programs" but it seems to do nothing after my accepting the RollBack Option.
I downloaded various versions, including 11, and they all said they would not install on this version of windows. Evidently the installers were unhappy with the mediaplayer mess that is
