Performing an In Place Upgrade can be fun, and works very well based on my
personal experiences.

On (as far as I can tell) every version of windowsXP, home OEM, home Retail,
pro retail, pro oem, pro VLK, OEM xp pro.

You need to match the correct disc with the correct install of windows,
ie... use an XP PRO retail disk with a hard drive that has an XP  PRO retail
install on it. Of course you need the license key that came with your
original media to be able to legally do this.

BE WARNED!!!!! mirror image your hard drive first onto another device. If
you boot the Hard Disk in the new machine you are likely to completely ruin
that installation of XP.

You need to boot from the installation media (The XP Installation CD).

That's if that is what you want to do.
