TSGL: Problems ftp-ing with an all NEW machine

Hi Joe,

thanks for your experience with this issue

Basically the webspace I got still is brandnew - most of the 2 Gigs are
empty! So lack of space can't be the problem, I guess. But I'll try to talk
to my hosting provider and find out what they think about it.

Meanwhile I'm still in the process of (continuously) tweaking my new PC's
settings. After installing a new XP system I've not only had the usual fight
with MS-related problems (had to repair the installation and then couldn't
get any updates! That's solved now...). I also had hard times with
- frequent bluescreening
- heavy + very irregular timeout problems with my email accounts
and such.

I've made 2 steps that appear to have improved things a lot or hopefully
will do so:
1. I've changed one of the memory related bios settings (pretty much by
guessing), which stopped (most of) the bluescreening.

2.Then I found people on the web whose machines showed similar symptoms, and
they solved them by uninstalling nVidia's ActiveArmor firewall. I had mine
switched off but still there... Uninstalled it too now, and am in the
process of testing things...

So I wonder whether my ftp-problems too were or may be related to these
unfortunate + unexpected problems. Funny enough I've spent twice as much
money for my PC this time as ever before, thinking this would spare me
problems with unreliable components ! HAHA ! I must've had about ten or so
computers at home sofar, where the earliest lasted longest. Since then the
intervals are decreasing. The last one is still standing beside my desk,
waiting for me to find out why it stopped working.

Anyway, I'll watch things and report back here if I find out more.

Thanks again
Tilman

My ftp client (WS_FTP) shows how much space I have and how much I've
used. You might check your log file. I've also had some problems
uploading large files even when the space available was 1GB. In
cases like this, I've had to email the file to the ISP and have one
  of their techs upload it.
