Did you do the "Replace Owner on Subcontainers..." on the Owner tab?

I had figured that changing the root level's ownership would change all
subfolder but it didn't, I still have to do each file/folder.

I tried the Karen ware replicator, it tried hard to copy the files, but as
soon as it hit a folder that I didn't have permission to it, it just
stopped.

Ian,
You should be able to "Take Ownership" of the folders/files in the
Security/Advanced/Owner area.
