TSGL: netzero inline text

Chuck,

You left most of my questions unanswered. However, since you did respond to
the last one, I'll go to it first. When I originally asked about whether
the "Free Personal Assistance via Email" had been tried, not being a member
of NetZero, I had not tried it myself.

As you indicated there were eight or so choices, I went to the
http://www.netzero.net/support/pat/index.html link and looked at the
choices. Did you or he try any of them? The first two in the drop-down box
are NetZero Dialup and NetZero DSL -- presumably your friend is on one of
these.

I chose the Dialup option and then had to sign in as a member or go to a
non-member Personal Assistance Ticket. Going to the latter I was asked to
complete personal information and then choose Question Type from another
drop-down list. The last choice is "Others". I did not go any further, but
I assume the members' section would have similar steps. If nothing else
fits, presumably your question would fall under "Others."

Perhaps you/your friend could try submitting your question there, asking:
(a) that it be forwarded to the appropriate section or where you should
send it if you're not in the correct one, and
(b) asking for a link or links on NetZero's site which might help you.

Alternatively the "Help" button at NetZero's home page goes to
http://www.netzero.net/support with various tabs and links, again depending
on your friend's connection (dialup or DSL) and email (webmail and/or
software program).

Again, since you didn't answer/explain whether
(a) you're talking about forwards being received, being sent, or both,
(b) it happens with all or only some of the forwards (whether being
received, sent, or both),
(c) he is using webmail or another email program (with perhaps the
problem being in one but not the other -- back to does it happen all the
time or only some times -- what distinguishes the times it happens from the
times it doesn't),
it's difficult to know where to look to help you.

One must also consider that although it may be a "simple enough request," if
what you're looking for is not available, you're not going to find it. Back
to my two quotes in my previous email below --

1. from OE (with similar provisions possibly in other email programs I
haven't used)
"When you use HTML formatting and the recipient's mail or news program does
not read HTML, the message appears as plain text with an HTML file attached.
Only e-mail programs that support MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail
Extensions) can read HTML formatting."

2. from http://www.freedomlist.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=158501.
Among the posts was this reply someone had received from NetZero: "Please
note that when you reply to a plain text message then the original message
will be included as inline text. If the original message is HTML message
then it will be included as an attachment."

And a note to all, not only Chuck.
I know that in the past there have been remarks, criticisms, and even
reprimands when people send an email saying, "Thanks, that worked." I for
one would like to know whether things work or not. And since the flood of
TSGL emails in years past before the sending/receiving problem last year has
dwindled to a bare trickle, I personally would hope to see it increase
again, if only with "Thanks, that worked" or "Didn't help."

Merna

yes, I tried "Free Personal Assistance via Email". They require that you
pick from among 8 or so categories, none of which cover this problem.

What I am after is setting the default, as I do in Yahoo,
to say all Forwards (and Replies) should include the original document
as inline , not as an attachment. Simple enough request and covered easily
in
the other email programs I've used.

  Chuck,

Questions and possibilities.

Does this happen with email being forwarded to him, by him, or both -- i.e.
with forwards he is receiving, sending or both?

Does it happen with all emails or only some?

Are you talking about forwards from an email program (like Outlook Express
or Thunderbird) where you can choose "forward" or "forward as attachment,"
or are you talking about NetZero Web Mail?

If only some outgoing emails, is he sending them as plain text or rich text
(HTML)? "When you use HTML formatting and the recipient's mail or news
program does not read HTML, the message appears as plain text with an HTML
file attached. Only e-mail programs that support MIME (Multipurpose Internet
Mail Extensions) can read HTML formatting." (Quote from Outlook Express
Help. Do other email programs like Thunderbird have similar content in
their Help section?)

Some Googling included a thread you might find helpful at
http://www.freedomlist.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=158501.

Has your called NetZero's help line? Or used its "Free Personal Assistance
via Email" at
http://www.netzero.net/support/pat/index.html ?

working with a friend who uses NetZero email.
His forwards are attachments and we can't figure out
how to change them to inline text. Any suggestions?
thanx, chuck
