  Maybe someone has suggested this already and I missed it.  Or maybe it's 
just too obvious.  Or maybe the symptoms don't point this way, but I had a 
problem once with a virus that was stuck in System Restore.  My AV couldn't 
reach in there to clean it off.  The simple solution was to turn off System 
Restore and reboot.
