I was working on my laptop when I needed to get a file from my desktop
computer. The two are connected through a wireless network.
When I tried to get the file, I got an error report that the drive to which
I was trying to connect was "unavailable". I then went to the desktop which
was running, turned on the monitor, and was surprised by seeing only a black
screen.
Checking connections to the monitor found nothing wrong. I hard booted the
desktop several times. The screen remained black, not even giving me an
opportunity to enter setup, but several lights, including those on the
keyboard, the mousewheel, and the Wireless LAN lit. So my first guess is
that the Video Card is not working.
I could run out and get a new video card and replace the old (not as easy as
you may think, the nearest computer parts store is about 40 miles away), but
I am concerned that I was not able to access the computers drives over the
wireless LAN. If the video card is not working such that I cannot even
access setup, would this also disable the Network Interface Card (the light
was on) ?
