It may still be a power fault. You may only discover this through process
of elimination, do you have another pc with a power supply you can borrow to
test?

Look at what happened to "ComputerFree" recently

Hi there everybody and an especially happy hello to the first person who
answered my question - Ian - who turned out to be correct! I did not believe
it as I thought it would show other problems as well, if the power supply
was causing the problem, but my son was here today at last and did look
everything through - found the video card being not 100% fix (was his own
fault, as only he does work inside my computer, I never touch it and my
husband does only look at things and did not dare to do anything) but then
also found, the processor fan was working when only the power supply was
switched on with nothing connected, so we did exchange the power supply with
an even stronger one and I am back into being able to switch the computer on
even after the socket was switched off.

but keep in mind, people don't give away things that serve a purpose.

Are you sure the source from which you obtained this device is reliable?
