TSGL: software/website question: user location

I've seen several web sites (not paying enough attention to remember which 
ones), where visitors/users of the product/ could add themselves, ie: could 
click on the town they lived in & add information as name, email....

Anyone recognize what I'm talking about or have links to what I'm looking for.

I tried Googling, but had no luck, so my mind isn't coming up with the 
right key words.
