Thanks Justin----I brought the computer home to work on it, so there's 
nothing else plugged in except the monitor. I even tried it without mouse 
and keyboard.

I'll try disconnecting CD player and floppy drive.

Could a bad sector on the sector of the hard drive containing the mbr cause 
a lockup after POST? Or would it just generate an error message?  I've 
never had a bad mbr.

There's no hd activity after POST.
