TSGL: XP SP3

I installed SP3,
 an ATI video driver caused a BSOD, 
I reverted to my last full drive backup,
installed a recommended ATI fix,
re-installed SP3,
ATI video driver caused another BSOD,
reverted again to my last full drive backup.

I am now licking my wounds, thinking about my next step.
I do have an AMD processor.

Well, MS has invited me to install SP3 on my 2 machines. But before I accept this most
generous invitation I'd like some feedback.

Who has installed it and what was your experience?

The size ranges from 67 - 316 MB. Since my machines are up to date can I expect the 67 MB
size or perhaps even less?

Any comments welcome. MS updates of this magnitude always produce agita for me.
