Interesting, thanks for that.

But I think I've eliminated Eudora as the villain, as the same lockup 
happened today, and I purposely hadn't used Eudora since rebooting.

Since writing, I thought I'd run Eventlog viewer in case event logs can 
show anything for the time of the freeze. I'll report back on that.

Meantime, keep those suggestions rolling in. Every little thought helps.
