TSGL: Using a Vista generated file (video) on another Vista machine

I have two machines with Vista, one at home using the Home Premium
(Desktop) and one at work using the Enterprise Edition (Laptop). Quite
often I record TV shows, on my home machine, using Media Center. What I
like to do is to transfer some of these recordings to my work PC and
watch the shows when I travel. However, the Enterprise Edition can't
play these files in Media Player as it keeps nagging about missing
codecs. I know Media Center is not part of Enterprise Edition but still,
should a file created by Vista be compatible with another Vista?
Is there an easy fix for this?
Note VLC (VideoLan) can play the file but the sound is damaged. It's not
completely in sync with the video.
