TSGL: recommendation

Hi all.  Can anyone recommend here recommend a (preferably) free program 
that compresses wav files, which can then be burned onto a single cd.  As a 
classical music lover who has cds where a single symphony (Mahler's, for 
instance) spans 2 discs, I would like to compress the wav file enough to get 
them on one disc.  Having to get up out of bed to change discs is annoying 
to say the least :)
