You might want to consider Audacity which will allow for conversion to many formats. But if what you want is smaller .wav files so you can use your existing player, I'm not sure you'd enjoy the result. A smaller .wav file will have to be lower quality which means oftentimes you lose some highs and lows. If you're want to see what it would sound like, you can convert to a low bit-rate .mp3 and back to .wav which you can test in your existing player.
Of course you can always purchase a multi-disk player and not worry about conversions.

Hi all. Can anyone recommend here recommend a (preferably) free program
that compresses wav files, which can then be burned onto a single cd. As a
classical music lover who has cds where a single symphony (Mahler's, for
instance) spans 2 discs, I would like to compress the wav file enough to get
them on one disc. Having to get up out of bed to change discs is annoying
to say the least :)
